Notably mediocre was their XBLIG title Arkedo Series #3: Pixel! Pretty game for sure, but awful play control and boring, bland platforming. They also did a couple […]

It seems cheap of me to balk at $3, but I agree that a game should aspire to more.

Mainly, I want to point out that “call for a penis-shaped U-Haul because I believe a dick move is coming.” had me ROFL, and I don’t ROFL very often.

They are beautiful games, but they’re lacking that elusive awesomesauce.

Swap is alright, as one of the first games on the service back then it was competent.

I personally didn’t like Pixel much, it was dull and there were too many blind areas and it just bored the shit out of me. However, I had to put it on the Grcade list as plenty of people recommended it. Horses for courses and all that….

Well actually, the thing is I ignored my readers on recommendations for so long and they were totally right about Miner Dig Deep, at least for me. Mr. Alan C (oh he with the tea) might disagree with that one, but I totally did ignore it, and I loved it. I’m not kidding when I say that was the most suggested title I ever got, by a lightyear, which was surprising to me. And that’s where the concept for the Katch-Up came from.

So the feature will stick around (I still have damn near 100 unplayed games left) and I still want to hear from my readers. Even if it’s tough to get participation, I love engaging with them. I love everything about doing this site. It’s been so rewarding. Not every idea for a feature is going to be a winner (I admit, the Cusp did not do what I wanted it to do) but I’ll keep trying to come up with new things and see what sticks. This one will stick.

As far as Arkedo goes, they’re really professionally made games, but they just don’t have that “it” factor about them. JUMP! might have if it was two dollars cheaper and it had a continue option. Pixel was really boring for me, even though the game is well made from a purely artistic and technical point of view. I can see why it would be a top seller. If you’re the type that plays demos, that first seven minutes might lead you to believe that there’s going to be something special here. But it just never takes off. It stays in cruise control throughout.

And to think that Pixel was on the number one spot of the marketplace for a good amount of time…

Also, don’t let that giveaway get you down. I’ve done MANY over the last couple of years and no matter what the price was, hardly anyone bothered. But making someone happy is always good enough for me.

Double plus also, it’s no wonder when you trust a bunch of strangers on the interwebs to pick a game, that the chances of it being actually any good are slim to none. You’ve been around long enough, you should know the deal by now! 😉
