Yet, i rate it as one of the best X-Box indie games of all time.

Since when has actually getting to the end of game contributed anything to how you rank it? I remember tons of games i played as a kid on the NES, SNES and Megadrive (Or Genesis, to you American folk) and not getting anywhere near the end but still loving every damn second.

I think what sets Apple Jack apart from it’s ‘punishment platformer’ contemporaries is it’s charm. And it has bucket loads of the stuff. Every time i died i was instantly cooled off by how wonderfully British this game was. And then i carried on.

I’m all up for critique, hatred and bile-filled flaming, but only when it is deserved. Every one has a right to their opinion but i do believe that in this case you let your frustration get in the way and you ignored how well put together the game actually is. Nothing with this amount of charm and Monty Python-esque surreality can cause that much rage in a person. Unless, of course, you don’t find throwing washing machines at pandas to be endlessly endearing.

Now, i’m going back to play the game. I’ve been stuck on the same fucking level for months,,,,

At last some-one shared my hatred of apple jack, I barely got into the game and I could see where it was leading and I just didn’t like it

The ‘one hit = lose life’ mechanic is shared by the majority of platformers throughtout videogame history, including most of the 80s classics. In fact Apple Jack’s gameplay, including the enemy riding and the profusion of spikes, reminds me strongly of The New Zealand Story. Clearly a lot of gamers do like this style of gameplay; any game that satisfies a good chunk of the gamer population and has objectively good presentation is a decent game, end of story.
