Voice acting is so much harder than it seems it should be, huh? I lost count of how many takes I did on the voice “acting” for Bluebones, and that only had a few minutes of lines in total.

I’ll be leaving that to people who know what they’re doing in the future. 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to review my game. From your review I thought hated it but I’m glad you liked it enough to put it on your leader board.

As for the voice, I really didn’t want it to sound like Glados. My original thought was to make it sound more like the Mooninites from Aqua Teens. The problem was my audio editing skills suck as much as my voice acting skills. I recorded several versions trying to get it to sound like what I envisioned, but if you think what shipped sucks, the stuff I cut out was just effing awful.

Anyway, thanks for the review.

Yes, I think so. It sounds like you really hate Human Subject.

You know, I think people are reading my review wrong. Human Subject is very flawed, but it got ranked on my leaderboard, and only games that get my recommendation get that. It’s not a perfect game or even remotely close, but it’s wasn’t a waste of my time to play it. I enjoyed it in parts. I really truly did. This might be a situation similar to my review of Wizorb where I totally fucked up articulating that I did like the game.

I watched the gameplay video and shuddered. When he canceled at the end in the midst of a really super annoying part of the level, I immediately thought “you tolerated it longer than I would have!”

Yet most of the time, when ideas get stolen, its the superficial ideas that get copied. This game takes the concept of being alone in a “test chamber” while constantly being insulted by a sarcastic mechanical female voice (and I didn’t even get far enough to hear any cake references!). Sure, that whole concept helped make Portal a memorable game, but only because it was just PART of a much bigger aesthetic. Taking this idea out and expecting it to make a game memorable is like taking one of your internal organs out of your body and expecting it to work just as well on your kitchen counter.

The Portal thing. Sigh. I don’t know if that was funny/shocking/whatever in Portal because I’d heard it screeched by self-congratulating tossers at least a hundred times before I even managed to play Portal for myself. Ok, Portal was good and had a distinctive feel, but constantly referencing it, whether aloud or in game design, is deeply annoying. It doesn’t improve any experience, and if anything just makes me resent Portal a bit.
