The stamina thing seems annoying. Since I usually play a game for everything it has to offer, I probably won’t be getting it. Even so, good review!

Good to see there are some younger players(and a girlie to boot! 😉 ) around that can appreciate the classic crawler. There’s still hope yet in this dark age of console conversions and Action RPG’s.

I can’t say I’ve played Eye of the Beholder. I’ve always made an effort as a gamer to try out stuff that was “before my time” which I think Eye of the Beholder would qualify as (I think I was like four years old when it came out), but I have missed out on a lot of stuff. I’m only 22 guys, so chances are I don’t remember the 8 and 16 bit stuff you guys loved. I really do try hard to keep up though.

I absolutely love first person dungeon crawlers, so this game is right up my alley. Remember Eye of the Beholder on the SNES? Yeah, I loved that shit. I made that game my bitch, and I’ve been looking for more like it. I literally jumped at the chance to have this type of RPG. I’m not far into it, but the story seems ok, just a little vague. The fighting is rated so rapidly tapping the A button to attack won’t get you that extra bit of treasure and healing, you actually have to use strategy, and you have to do it quickly. What’s not to like? Once I get into the challenges, I’m sure I’ll keep playing over and over.

I’m certainly not random. I thought the dungeon itself was perfectly fine, especially compared to the other art in the game. I had absolutely no issue with the control scheme. I thought turning, navigating, searching, etc, was just fine and not really worth remarking on. And yea, the game is repetitive, but it’s an RPG. They all are!

When something bugs me about a game, I note it. And I was going to pan on the game until I hit the challenges, which I did enjoy quite a bit. Overall, I liked it. My only criteria for giving a game a recommendation is whether or not I had fun (with Chain Crusher being the one exception due to it’s insane price). I had fun with Dark Delve. It’s not going to knock anyone’s socks off but I found it to be a perfectly competent RPG and the price certainly was right. And following my review I talked to the developer and he’s considering removing the stamina feature, which would greatly improve the game.

To each their own I guess. But thanks so much for loving the site. Even when you disagree with my opinions, one of my main goals is always to write the most entertaining reviews possible. I likely failed that here, but in general I hope you get a good laugh or two from my stuff.

I thought this game was total shit, I was sure you’d agree. The 3D was crude, the textures bad, the dungeon was repetitive, the first-person movement sucked, the monster art was awful, the battle system uninspired, and the difficulty curve of the battles was way out of whack. There was no story per se, and no incentive to keep me playing. I stopped playing within about 5 minutes, and I’m a huge RPG fan. Then again, I only played the trial, but it was enough to make me never want to go near this stinking pile again.

Seems odd that you gave this one such a great review (at least by Indie Gamer Chick standards) while panning some other titles that were arguably better. Sometimes I think you’re just randomly lashing out. Still love your site, though!
