I didn’t like that I had to push a separate button to turn, instead of just using the directional pad. It made it feel sluggish.

But the game as a whole is very cool! I would definitely play an Aqua Kitty 2! 🙂

I’m cool with that. Having played an endless supply of uninspired-inspired neo-retro games, I’m not keen on seeing Defender done wrong. Still, how did Defender fall through the cracks?” […]

Re. Michaels comment – yeah I felt the same way about Defender. I had fond memories of playing it but playing again now, it has very twitchy controls and demands certain type of concentration (it didnt feel `fun` really..).

Glad you like our control method approach – interestingly the game started as a puzzle shooter, never a defender clone. But through development iteration the game changed over time to have some defender like elements.

Defender-like games. Instead of hitting a direction to face one way or the other, you hit a shoulder button, giving you more control on both which direction you shoot and the speed at which you travel (you move slower backward than forward). That little thing right there makes a world of difference to me as I normally dislike Defender and all its spawn and copies over the last three decades.
