I’ve never heard of Trenched. Might have to check it out now.

On many levels, having 4 people is a detriment since there are then 4x as many monsters. That said, it is impossible to beat every challenge in this game solo. The regular story can be completed on Easy or Medium solo (if you level up enough). I regularly play it with 2-3, and that seems pretty ideal.
If you liked Trenched, I can’t imagine not liking this game. Its Trenched with a different theme and 10x as much content.

Definitely can change the dpad selections on Xbox. I am doing so now. You open the radial menu and highlight the selection you want on the dpad. While it is highlighted, you press and hold a dpad direction.

I had that problem with Borderlands too. The one time I played it with a friend, I was about level 17 and he was level 60. I wonder how much impact that would have on DD.

In related news, based on the demo I much prefer Orcs Must Die for this type of game.

I hate the outside of game menu system too but the in game circular menu works smooth like butter once you get the hang of which button does what. 360 controller is way easier to play with than keys/mouse.

I agree. While I have friends that play games like this, it’s extremely rare more than two of us are on at the same time.

Also I’m beginning to think this combo tower defense/hack and slash (or FPS) is becoming a bit saturated. You’ve got this, Trenched, Orcs Must Die (which came out, what, last week?) and to an extent Monday Night Combat (I’m hesitant to list that one since it focuses more on competitive team based play, but it does have just a plain tower against AI mode). I tried the demo for this and didn’t see anything that I thought this did much better. Some things I thought were better, yes, but nothing significant.

It’s one of those games where if all my friends were to buy it I probably would too, but without a guaranteed group of people to play this with it’s not worth it.

It’s certainly not nearly as fun by yourself. I played with one friend and we had a blast. I haven’t played as long as the reviewer so I can’t comment either way on “requiring” four players to dig far into the game.

I actually have to disagree about not being able to map the D pad. I am pretty sure in the tutorial they tell you exactly how to change the functions of the D pad. But to be fair, I am not in front of my Xbox at the moment. I will review this and leave a reply.

I do heartily agree about the menus. They could have been vastly simplified and it can be aggravating figuring out how to do the simplest actions.

There is a possibility that games with levels have a weakness when you want to play with friends but you can’t find characters with close levels. This happened to me alot in Borderlands. I don’t know how DD deals with this yet.

Personally I enjoy the game, but I would not have bought it without one committed friend to play with.
